The Optimistic Creed (Promise Yourself)
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to everyone you meet.
To make all your friends feel there is something special in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and focus on the greater opportunities that lie ahead.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticise others.
To be too large for worry,
Too noble for anger,
Too strong for fear,
And too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
WELCOME BACK
I hope was a relaxing, fun-filled holiday. On the whole we had beautiful weather, which allowed families to enjoy our great outdoors. The children certainly seem well-rested and have arrived back looking wonderful in correct uniform and sporting neat and tidy haircuts.
As we commence Term 3, we thank our God for the blessings in our lives and even though we continue to take precautions to keep us safe and healthy during these current times of uncertainty, we still have many reasons to be optimistic: our faith, our families, our friends and our school.
STAFF NEWS
sharing Year 3 Gold with Miss Emma Steele, with both teachers working five day fortnights.
Miss Steele will be working on Mondays and Tuesdays, with Ms Tory teaching on Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will be shared. We know Ms Tory is extremely happy to be teaching this cohort having had many of the students in her Year 1 class.
STUDENT TEACHERS
their internships at Stella Maris this term. Madeline Negus (5 Blue- Mrs Downing) and
Gabrielle Rosandic (5 Gold- Ms Young) have settled in well and will be a great asset to the class teachers and the Year 5 students.
COVID-19 RESPONSE
Parents would have received updated information via Compass
regarding ongoing COVID-safe measures we have in place at school. We are being encouraged to continue to adhere to social distancing requirements in line with government
health advice. In the event that we receive notification that a staff member, student or parent has tested positive to COVID-19 we have a plan in place to send children home and commence intensive cleaning.
AFTERNOON PICK-UP
This term we continue with our afternoon pick-up arrangements,
where students can be collected directly from their classrooms/class lines (K & Year 1) from 2.30-2.50pm. We ask all parents to collect their children in a prompt manner, refraining to stop to talk to other parents or staff. I would also ask adults waiting for the gates to open to ensure that they are maintaining the 1.5 metre social distancing requirement. One preventative measure that can reduce crowding on the footpaths is for people to stagger their arrival time rather than everyone coming for 2.30pm.
FRIDAY ZOOM ASSEMBLIES
We will continue to hold our Friday Award Assemblies via Zoom commencing tomorrow. They will start at 1.55pm and parents are warmly invited to tune in using the code: 955 491 655 and password SMS.
HAND DRYERS
Before the outbreak of COVID-19, I had made enquiries with the Catholic Education Office’s Building and Properties Division regarding the most appropriate means of drying hands in the school toilets. The recommendation has been made that the best possible hand drying solution for students in our Catholic Schools is 'air drying'. Mechanical air dryers have multiple issues including, bacterial spread (Harvard Medical research backed) and additional ongoing costs in energy use and maintenance. Additionally, young people are less likely to spend the time required to dry their hands effectively. Paper towel is supposedly better from a bacteria viewpoint but the cost of paper and maintenance issues with toilet blockages can increase. As a result we will not be making any change to the current arrangements.
PARENT- SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS
This week we outline the third principle of the ParentSchool Partnership Framework: Supportive Environment, which is about maintaining a safe,
supportive and respectful school environment. We live this in our communities by:
● Upholding school rules, policies and processes that are in place to ensure the
wellbeing of all.
● Respecting that the school has external accountabilities in regard to staff and
student wellbeing and safety.
● Following school-based communication protocols that:
➔ uphold the privacy of all and are aligned with current legislation;
➔ are considerate of the school as a workplace and the commitments of families.
● Ensuring processes for raising and resolving concerns are clearly communicated and
adhered to.
● Adhering to the standards of the CEDoW Social Media Statement.
● Ensuring our language and behaviour are not aggressive, abusive, intimidating or
threatening

Gospel
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
He sells everything he owns and buys the field.
Jesus said to the crowds, ‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again, goes off happy, sells everything he owns and buys the field.
‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it.
‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea that brings in a haul of all kinds. When it is full, the fishermen haul it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in a basket and throw away those that are no use. This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels will appear and separate the wicked from the just to throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
‘Have you understood all this?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ And he said to them, ‘Well, then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom things both new and old.’
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Welcome back to Term 3!
The Feast of Joachim and Anne, Jesus’ Grandparents is celebrated on the 26th July.
We remember our own grandparents on this special day and appreciate the important role they play in all our lives. They bring gifts of wisdom, experience, and love and share with us their life of faith. We thank God for their example and ask that he bless them with happiness and good health.
Lord God almighty,
bless our grandparents with long life, happiness, and health.
May they remain constant in your love
and be living signs of your presence
to their children and grandchildren.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

In the Classroom:
This term Kindergarten will be learning about God’s Great Family beginning with the story of Abraham and Sarah. It is a story of promise and trust and formative to our identity as the People of God. The second part of the unit introduces Jesus’ family and tells two short stories of Jesus as a boy. The story of the people of God begins a new chapter in the person of Jesus. The unit focuses on belonging both in the family and with all the people of God.
Year 1 will be learning about Stories of God’s People. The unit presents stories from both the Old and New Testaments. The parables of the Kingdom - Yeast, Hidden Treasure and Precious Pearl - are told. Then stories of ‘Joseph’ and ‘Moses and the Burning Bush’ are told. The unit develops the concept of the Bible as sacred, telling us about God’s relationship with people.
